There are some very interesting reports coming in about the second J. J. Abrams Star Trek film. Potential spoilers incoming, so we’ll give you a moment to look away. SERIOUSLY, POSSIBLE SPOILERS!
Still here? Good, I can never look away from these either. Trekmovie is reporting that Khan will be the villain in the upcoming Star Trek sequel. Ricardo Montalban portrayed Khan in the classic 1967 Trek episode Space Seed and the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. That film is considered not just the best Star Trek movie, but one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. The Trekmovie report has Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) stepping into what could become the role of a lifetime. These are all rumors and reports unconfirmed by Paramount, who does not comment on them.
Khan is a genetically engineered superhuman that nearly takes the Enterprise and defeats Captain Kirk. As punishment, Khan and his followers get exiled to an alien world. After Khan’s wife dies on that harsh planet, he swears vengeance on Kirk. That sets up the conflict for the movie. The new Star Trek movies take place in an alternate timeline, however. I’m betting Khan is still a total jerk though.
Another Trek rumor making the rounds is that Leonard Nimoy will return as Spock Prime. He had announced his retirement from acting. Abrams’ first Trek movie left the future Spock as a resident of the new timeline, as he stayed to help survivors from Vulcan. So they left the door wide open for a return if the actor wants to do so.
