In news that would have seemed somewhat unlikely just a couple of years ago, Entertainment Weekly Wednesday named Ben Affleck its Entertainer of the Year for 2012. The award is on the strength of “Argo,” which Affleck directed and starred in, as well as Affleck’s astonishing comeback.
George Clooney contributed an essay about Affleck to the magazine, which comes out later this week. Runners-up include Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, Joss Whedon, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kerry Washington and Seth MacFarlane.
The choice of Affleck is absolutely defensible. But why not Louis C.K.? In 2012 he led another triumphant season of FX’s Louie- a show for which he serves just about every creative function from acting to directing to editing- while also shaking up the model of stand-up comedy by selling his special and later tour tickets on his website.
