After the merger of NBC and Universal, Syfy has been looking for ways to prove itself, reports A.V. Club. With an entire network devoted to lost film stars and mutant sharks and aliens, NBC Universal believes that turning “Waterworld” into a TV series will get the network taken seriously.
Is this really their best idea? Taking a huge box office flop and dragging it out even longer in a series? According to Syfy president Dave Howe, it is. Revisiting “Waterwold” has been “talked about endelessly” at Syfy, Howe says. Their reasoning is that “Waterworld” continues to draw a big crowd whenever they air it.
They can justify this notion whatever way they want, but I can’t see this TV series lasting past its first season. Who really wants to watch failed actors pee into jars every episode?
