Mike Judge, the director who skewered Southern life in King of the Hill and work culture in Office Space, is taking on the tech industry. HBO has greenlit his Silicon Valley pilot, which deals with the people “most qualified to succeed but least capable of handling success.” Judge will direct the pilot and executive produce along with John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, producers on King of the Hill.
HBO and Mike Judge? That seems like a pairing that will reap a lot of rewards come Emmy time. The director’s strength is taking us inside subcultures, whether it’s the good folks in Arlen, Texas or Beavis and Butthead and their bizarre circle of friends. He’s known primarily for animation, but has tackled live action movies including Office Space and Idiocracy.
Silicon Valley is set to start filming in the spring.
