Here’s your box office report for this past weekend, complete with snarky commentary.

.) “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” $84.8M. Missed it this weekend, but I wouldn’t be surprised if 120 minutes consisted of walking. Hey, you got to fill three movies with something.

.) “Rise of the Guardians,” $7.4M. Is it based on that Diet Dr. Pepper commercial about the “I Exist” support group?

.) “Lincoln,” $7.2M. Not getting the “Sally Field is an Oscar contender” talk. I would love to discuss Ann Dowd, Rosemarie DeWitt, Shirley MacLaine,  and even Charlize Theron.

.) “Skyfall,” $7M. And, sure, let’s throw in Judi Dench, who played the best annoyed mother of the year.

.) “Life of Pi,” $5.4M. I’ll bet you $1,000 this conversation happened at a playground, school event, or some other parent gathering. Parent #1: “Brave was cute, but we want to expose Sierra and Tameron to more sophisticated fare. So that’s why we all saw Life of Pi this weekend.” Parent #2: (Rolls eyes before nodding politely, smiling)
