In a nod to the comic book which spawned the hit AMC show The Walking Dead, its first two seasons will air in black and white. This will start on AMC in February, as a way to lead into the Feb. 10 return of new episodes. The news first appeared in The Walking Dead magazine, and showrunner Glen Mazzara retweeted a fan’s photo from that mag, confirming the news.
Robert Kirkman, who created the comic, wasn’t even sure if the book would make it to issue #13. Now The Walking Dead is a multimedia sensation with comic books, video games and a TV show. AMC’s adaptation drew 10.5 million viewers for its midseason finale. It’s now the highest-rated among 18-49 year-old viewers. The show also helped end an impasse between AMC and cable provider Dish Network, who had taken AMC off its service. After The Walking Dead debuted to record numbers, Dish had little choice but to make a deal.
