According to a Hollywood Reporter piece Monday, Ricky Gervais is in negotiations to become the main human star of next year’s “Muppets” movie, the sequel to last year’s successful reboot. Ty Burrell is already on board, along with the usual gang of Muppets.
The human stars of the 2011 “Muppets” film, Jason Segel and Amy Adams, won’t be back for the sequel. The new film will have musical numbers, written by Oscar-winning songwriter Bret Mackenzie, so perhaps Gervais will put his old Sedona Dancing pipes to good use in the film.
