Movie Review: “Godzilla”

It’s not just the technical wizardry that makes “Godzilla” work. Gareth Edwards treats the monster, the story and his actors with some degree of respect. In that regard, he’s respecting his audience, too. In such magnificent and horrifying circumstances, we get to see people react as we would. They’re afraid. They panic. They make odd and sometimes irrational decisions, rather than thump their chest and stand right in the face of certain death with cigar in hand because U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

“Godzilla” Crosstalk: Silver and Kotzen, Part II: Kotzen replies

Our film critics, Stephen Silver and Shawn Kotzen, both saw the new “Godzilla” movie. Here’s their discussion about it. See Silver’s first volley here; Kotzen responds:  Steve- Now I’m going to start off by saying something that’s equal parts blasphemy, sacrilege and madness all rolled into one crazy package.. I was one of about twenty more »

The extended trailer for ‘Godzilla’ gives us more plot, more reasons to be excited

So far, what do we know about Gareth Evans Edwards’ highly anticipated reboot of Toho treasure Godzilla? Well, aside from successfully wiping the taste of Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich’s awful , the first trailer intimated that the US nuclear testing program that blanketed the Pacific islands with A-bombs in the ’50s and ’60s was not more »

The trailer for the ‘Godzilla’ reboot will leave you gobsmacked!

Yesterday, the Internet was busy dealing with the death of comic legend Harold Ramis and the usual cat/dog/dumb human memes and liberal/conservative grousing when this happened: Wow! For some fans, the full length trailer for the ‘Godzilla‘ reboot was a revelation, a realization of all the artistic and aesthetic aims that the previous (pathetic) attempt more »

Elizabeth Olsen Boards ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ as Scarlet Witch

Avengers assemble… and don’t forget to take Elizabeth Olsen for the ride. Otherwise, she might put a spell on you, Tony Stark, so as to actually start liking Thor. Yuck! Movie Review: “Kick-Ass 2″

At the end of the first “Kick-Ass,” the heroes and villains alike were left to deal with the violent aftermath they created. Our primary champion of justice, the green-and-yellow-suited, baton-wielding, teenage Kick-Ass (aka – Dave Lizewski), along with the aid of the unnecessarily violent, purple-wig-wearing, foul-mouthed, pre-teen Hit-Girl (aka – Mindy McCready) had just more »

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Lands a Director: Sam Taylor-Johnson

Many a reputable director declared their interest for helming the big-screen adaptation of the pornographic erotic romance novel “Fifty Shades of Grey”, including Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant, but it’s being reported that a much lower-profile filmmaker has landed the job after all. The name is Sam Taylor-Johnson and, since she’s only directed one movie more »

The International Trailer for ‘Kick-Ass 2′ Showcases the Many Hits of Hit-Girl

If the international trailer for “Kick-Ass 2” is an accurate representation of what we could expect from the upcoming film, then it seems the focus has shifted from Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kick-Ass to Chloe Grace Moretz’s Hit-Girl and that’s fine. Hit-Girl was always a far more compelling character and it will be interesting to see the more »

Ken Watanabe Joins Star-Studded ‘Godzilla’ Cast as Production Begins

There are literally dozens of sequels, prequels, reboots and remakes in production now in Hollywood and due out in theaters over the next couple of years, but very few seemed like a worse idea than the 2014 “Godzilla” rehash. And yet Legendary Pictures have managed to assemble a talented enough cast to make one hope more »

A Kick-Ass Red Band Trailer For “Kick-Ass 2″

“Kick-Ass,” from 2010, was one of the most unheralded awesome movies of the past few years. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, and based on a semi-well known comic book about the titular, do-it-yourself superhero, “Kick Ass” had eye candy, action, a bonkers Nicolas Cage performance, a little girl spouting the C-word and a whole lot more. more »
