Amazon released the Instant Video app for the iPad yesterday and it looks like one group of users will not be able to use it. Simply put, if your iPad has been jailbroken, then it looks like no Amazon Instant Video streaming for you. The news comes by way of The Verge, or more specifically, one of their readers who happened to try using the app on an iPad that was jailbroken and running iOS 5.1.1. Anyway, long story short, said user contacted Amazon support and was told that (based on the error message provided) — the reason he was not able to stream was because of the jailbreak.

“What we’re finding is that this specific error is popping up for folks whose iPads have any kind of jailbreak installed.”

From that point Amazon support went into some basic detail about how you can tell if your iPad is jailbroken — something the user likely already knew. Anyway, the interesting part here, Amazon does not seem to be doing this intentionally. Instead, it seems as if the app is simply not working. Unfortunately though, Amazon is not offering any help on the matter and what it looks like at the moment — jailbroken iPad users will not be able to use the Amazon Instant Video app at least for the foreseeable future.
