Some good news for those who enjoy Starbucks and had been hoping to be able to pay with Square. The companies have recently announced a partnership that means you will soon be able to do just that — walk into a Starbucks and pay with your Square account.

In addition to paying for your order, this also means quite a few more people will be able to check out and use the Pay with Square app than before. This could potentially also give some other Square accepting merchants a boost as the Pay with Square app includes a directory of stores (filtered my miles from your location). Take me for example, there were few if any Pay with Square locations around my home up until this point. Thanks to the Starbucks deal though, I will be able to take advantage of this beginning “later this fall.” Of course, the Starbucks app (which allows you to pay with a Starbucks Gift Card) will continue to work.

“Customers will be able to use Pay with Square, Square’s payer application, from participating company operated U.S. Starbucks stores later this fall, and find nearby Starbucks locations within Square Directory;”

The Pay with Square app is available for iOS and Android and can be downloaded (for free) from the respective app stores. For those not familiar with the Pay with Square app, you can set up an account and add-in whatever payment card you like. Just as an example, mine is set up with a PayPal debit card so the charges come directly from my PayPal account.

Finally, in addition to the allowing customers to pay for their Starbucks order with the Pay with Square app, Starbucks will also be investing $25 million in Square as part of the company’s Series D financing round.
