Google recently updated Google Maps for Android with improvements to its transit layer, a new icon and other enhancements, but it also brought along an app-breaking bug. Some devices such as the HTC Sensation and the HTC Rezound suffer from freezing and total crashes when using Google Maps.
We’ve been on the receiving end of this bug as well. After starting Google Maps and attempting to do anything, the app will stop responding. After hanging for several seconds, the device is forced to restart. This essentially makes the latest version of Google Maps useless for many people.
Fortunately, the update is easy to undo. Just go to the Google Maps page within Google Play and uninstall the latest update. Things will function normally once you do this.
