Flickr most popular camera phone list remains dominated by the iPhone

I was recently talking about phones with a friend of mine. I confessed that I was thinking about switching full-time to an Android device, but that I was not ready to give up my iPhone (the 4S) due to the stellar camera. And on that note, it looks like I am not alone in that thought. Well, maybe not in the thought of switching to Android, but on the topic of enjoying the camera on the iPhone.

It looks like the iPhone is continuing to dominate Flickr. If you check out the Flickr Camera Finder page you will see plenty of iPhone references. The most popular camera phones list is almost entirely iPhone. The list is topped by the iPhone 4 and followed by the 4S, 3GS, 3G and then the Samsung Galaxy S II. So sure, iPhone users like to take and share lots of pictures, but the interesting part here — the iPhone 3G (and 3GS) are sort of old at this point. In fact, MG Siegler recently pointed out;

“the iPhone 3G was taken off the market by Apple a year ago. Yet there still isn’t a single Android device that can pass it on this chart. Pretty pathetic.”

Pathetic indeed. Ot trying to be fair, maybe this is just a more realistic view of the fact that many outside of our tech bubble keep their phones for a long time.

Perhaps a bit more interesting here — while it is fairly easy to believe that the iPhone is dominating the most used camera phone list — it is also topping the most popular camera list. The iPhone 4 is sitting in the number one spot there with the 4S taking second. Coming in at third and fourth are Canon branded cameras with a Nikon in fifth. But also coming to a point, maybe this is just a clear sign that more and more people are going mobile. Heck, I rarely use my point and shoot camera for anything at this point — it is almost all iPhone 4S in terms of picture taking for me.
