Radio Shack ‘No Contract Wireless’ service officially launches on September 5th

We had seen the rumors, however as of today we have the official details on the “No Contract Wireless” service that is going to be offered by Radio Shack. The service will launch tomorrow (September 5th) and will be powered by Cricket Wireless. At launch Radio Shack will have two available phones — the Huawei Mercury Ice and the Huawei Pillar with the Mercury Ice being a smartphone and the Pillar being a feature phone. And for those looking for something else, Radio Shack also noted that two additional phones are expected to be available by the end of the month. In terms of these devices, let kick things off with the Mercury Ice.

The Mercury Ice will be $149.99 and sporting features to include a 4-inch scratch-resistant FWVGA display, 1.4GHZ processor and 8 megapixel rear-facing camera. Otherwise, the handset will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and able to take advantage of the $50 per month plan which includes unlimited data and Muve Music. Next up, the Pillar. This handset is priced at $39.99 and uses the lower priced plans. The ones that begin as low as $25 per month. The Pillar has a camera (of unspecified megapixels) and a full-QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging.

The plans include an option for $25, $35, $50 and $60 per month. These break down as follows;

  • $25 (feature phone): 300 anytime minutes, unlimited web/data
  • $35 (feature phone): 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited web/data
  • $50 (smartphone): unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited Muve Music, unlimited web/data with 1GB at full 3G speed
  • $60 (smartphone): unlimited anytime minutes, unlimited Muve Music, unlimited web/data with 2.5GB at full 3G speed, mobile tethering

And just to clarify, all plans include unlimited text messages, multimedia text messages, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting and 3-way calling. Finally, these are all contract-free offerings.
