We previously learned that none of the current Windows Phone devices would be getting upgraded to Windows Phone 8. And well, as one would suspect, that made some of the current Lumia owners feel not so great. Especially those who are rocking a Lumia 900, a supposed flagship phone. That being said, Nokia did come forward letting everyone know that while the Lumia devices would not get Windows Phone 8, they would still get updated. Just to clarify, the Lumia devices that will be updated include the 710, 800 and 900. And on that note, the Nokia Conversations blog has recently posted and reminded Lumia users that they still have some “great times ahead” and they are “definitely not being left behind.” Our take on that, you are getting screwed, just not as bad as you could have. That being said, Nokia has detailed their update plans which include an updated user interface along with some new features and apps. Some of the new goodies include the recently released Nokia City Lens and Nokia Counters — both of which can be found in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Otherwise, Nokia has also promised Cinemagraph as well as an update to the Smart Group Shot feature. The remaining goodies break down as follows;

  • A new Start screen look and feel, familiar from Windows Phone 8, giving you a whole new look the moment you unlock your phone
  • Ringtone maker app to selected markets to create a personal ringtone
  • Contact share app updated to support sharing over Bluetooth in addition to SMS and email
  • Bluetooth file transfer to send media files via Bluetooth from your Lumia device to any other phone
