We are beginning to see more and more home control and automation types of products come available. You know, things like the Belkin WeMo or the Nest Learning Thermostat. And well, it looks like we now have a simple add-on that will allow you to open your garage door from your phone. To be specific, from your iOS or Android smartphone. The product is the iSmartgate and it comes by way of Virtual to Factual Electronics. The one catch, it is sort of on the pricey side. Well, at least this cheapskate thinks so. Diving right in with that, the iSmartgate is available in two forms — Ethernet and Wi-Fi which are priced at $389 and $465 respectively. Anyway, pricing aside, the iSmartgate is said to work with all kinds of garage doors and perhaps more important — that it is easy to install, set-up and use. Bottom line here, if you want to be able to open up your garage door with a smartphone app and are willing to shell out a few hundred bucks, the iSmartgate looks like an option to consider. As for me, despite my earlier comment about the price, this is going on my wishlist.
