Facebook was busy on Thursday as it released a pair of updates to Facebook for Android and Facebook Messenger. Facebook for Android has not yet gotten that big overhaul like we’re expecting, but this update does add benefits to those who frequently message their friends. The standalone Messenger app does pretty much the same thing.
Facebook now lets you see who’s available to chat within the main app. There is a new button on the upper right-hand corner of the screen that displays the individuals you’ve chatted with recently. It also shows if they’re currently available to chat, or the last time they’ve been been connected to the app. You can also pin your favorite contacts for quicker access.
The chat interfaces for both apps has also been redesigned. The chat now looks more like a traditional text messaging app. Speaking of text messaging, some phones can also use Messenger to text their friends. This way, all your texts and Facebook messages will appear in one place. This feature has been limited to specific phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy y, HTC EVO 3D, HTC One X, LG Optimus Black and the LG Optimus Hub.
