The Google Play Books app for Android was updated on Monday with features that enhance the reading experience. Instead of merely reading words on the page, this new update enables you to look up the definition of words, instantly see real world locations on an embedded map card, translate passages into another language and take notes that are saved in the cloud.
All of these features can be accessed by simply highlighting the word or passage in any book within Google Play. This update helps to bring Google Books into a batter position to challenge Amazon’s Kindle and its Whispersync features. Students can find these features (especially note taking) particularly useful.
