Netflix recently updated its Android app with a new interface that looks pretty much identical to its iOS counterpart. Unknown to us at the time, Netflix also added a feature that lets a smartphone or tablet act as remote control when paired to a PlayStation 3 that’s running Netflix at the same time.
The first thing you have to do is make sure your mobile device and the PS3 is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. From there, you have to boot up Netflix on both platforms. Once you select what you want to watch on your mobile device, you should get a prompt that lets you choose whether you want playback to occur on your PS3 or mobile device. Once connected, you’ll be able to fast forward, rewind, pause and choose different content to watch.
I’ve been able to get the remote feature to work on an Android phone and tablet. At first it didn’t work, so I cleared the cache from the Netflix app and tried again. Your results may vary, but it’s worth giving it a few tries.
