There’s a new feature in the web version of Google play that lets users purchase credits for use on their accounts. Credit can be purchased in $5, $10, $15, $25 and $50 increments. Once the transaction is complete, it will be immediately reflected in your Google Play balance.
While this is a neat feature to have, it’s usefulness is questionable. There’s no way to gift credit to other people, so you’ll just be buying credit for yourself. If you do that, you might as well continue to use your preferred Google payment method as usual.
You could technically purchase credits for someone else, but that would involving putting your credit card on their account, purchase credit then remove your credit card. That method is just too needlessly complicated to make any sense. Maybe this is just the first step in a true credit gifting feature.
