Sony Mobile has come forward with its plans to update certain phones to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Let’s start with the bad news first. All Sony Mobile smartphones from 2011 will not receive any Android update beyond Ice Cream Sandwich. The good news is some of the more recent Sony Mobile smartphones will be upgraded.

The following phones will be upgraded to Jelly Bean starting in the first quarter of 2013:

  • Xperia T
  • Xperia TX
  • Xperia V

If you’re going to buy a Sony Mobile phone, those three are the ones you should focus on (unless Sony launches a Nexus phone). The next list of Sony Mobile phones will be updated as well, but Sony hasn’t nailed down dates yet.

  • Xperia S
  • Xperia acro S
  • Xperia ion
  • Xperia P
  • Xperia go
  • Xperia J
