Sony has announced a book club, well specifically speaking, a virtual book club. The club is called the Sony Readers Book Club and according to Sony, is looking for people who “can’t get enough good reads and wants to get in on the #SonyReader conversation.” Sony will be choosing one book per month and will conclude the month of personal reading time with a virtual club meeting. The meeting will include an online chat with the author of the book. The club will meet on the Sony Reader Store Facebook page. And for those in need of a bit more in terms of social networking, they will also be using Twitter.

The first book is Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor and the virtual club meeting will take place on November 28 at 12:30 PST. After this title, Sony has already selected a book for January, February and March.

  • January 16 (12:30PM PST): Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver
  • February 15 & 16 (1:30PM PST): The Black Box by Michael Connelly
  • March 14 (12:30 PM PST):  When It Happens To You by Molly Ringwald

In addition, Sony is also looking for some socially connected members (that also have a passion to read) to act as VIPs. If you think you want to, or can act as a VIP member, Sony wants to hear from you. In fact, they have provided an email address along with a list of questions that need answering — hit the link below for those details. Being a VIP also comes with some perks. Sony will be giving the 25 VIP members a Sony Reader device and cover with light as well as the first four Book of the Month ebooks — all for free. And if that wasn’t enough, those VIP members will also get invited to an in-person book club and meet-and-greet with author Michael Connelly in Los Angeles with airfare, hotel, transportation and meals for the duration of the weekend included.

Otherwise, this does seem to be an interesting idea. And while I am not A Sony Reader user, or necessarily interested in reading any of those books — I am curious to see how well this does.
