It looks like Newegg has begun selling the Sony Xperia Advance, which for those not familiar with that model — it is a rugged designed device. The Xperia Advance is selling unlocked with Newegg and available in three colors. The colors include yellow, white and black. And interestingly enough, they all seem to have different pricing. The yellow is $249.99, the white is $259.99 and the black is $349.99.

That said, despite the difference in price and exterior color — they all have the same specs which begin with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. There is a plan to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, however we know how that works and should know not to count on that. Otherwise, the Xperia Advance has a 3.5-inch (480 x 320) display, dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage (4GB available for the user), a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 1305 mAh battery and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera.

The Xperia Advance will work with an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM, however T-Mobile will be limited to 2G while AT&T will see 3G. Touching back on the rugged design, the Xperia Advance has the IP67 certification for dust and water proofing and the display is a scratch-resistant glass.

Bottom line here, the Xperia Advance is not the most exciting handset available now, however depending on the color you choose, it could be a decent contract-free device — that is, as long as you can live with Gingerbread.
