SugarSync version 2.0 has been officially announced. The new software, which is available for the desktop, web and Android is arriving today (November 13) in beta form. Those who happen to be existing SugarSync users and curious about getting the latest release — we have some good news. SugarSync 2.0 is available for download and can be found at www.sugarsync.com/beta. And for those who are not yet SugarSync users, the 2.0 release seems like as good a time as any to get started. Personally, I have been a long time user and never hesitate to offer a recommendation.
Some of the new features and changes that are being touted with SugarSync 2.0 include the following;
Other goodies include having a cloud that is social, a cloud that is searchable and a cloud that doesn’t box you in. Breaking each of these down a bit further and we have the following. Beginning first with the social aspect and you will find drag and drop sharing. This means that you can drag a file or folder to the contact you want to share with and drop it. From that point, the user will get a link to the file. There is also sharing over social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Next up, the searchable cloud. This one should be good for those with larger (or messier) SugarSync clouds. The search is simple, it will allow you to search all of your files — including all of your folders. The search will also include any files that have been shared with you from others.
Moving over to the cloud not boxing you in. This means that you will be able to sync any amount of files and folders. You can even have SugarSync sync and backup your actual desktop. I do that and cannot tell you how many times it has come in handy. Basically, this means you can use SugarSync as a true backup. For example, I sync my files and folders in a format that is the same as I have them setup on my notebook. This means that when I access SugarSync on the web, or on another device, the files and folders are all as I would find on my notebook.
That all being said, SugarSync 2.0 is available for the desktop and web today. These releases are considered public beta and are available for Windows and Mac. SugarSync 2.0 Beta for Android is also available for download today and can be found by navigating to the www.sugarsync.com/beta site.
Otherwise, SugarSync 2.0 for iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian are coming soon. These existing mobile apps (despite not being a 2.0 release) will still work if you upgrade your desktop to version 2.0. The folks at SugarSync have also promised that a Windows Phone app is coming soon.
Finally, new SugarSync users can get a free account with 5GB of storage and there is always the option to pay for additional.
