Apple Messages app

It looks like Apple will soon be pulling the plug for those using the Messages (Beta) app on Lion. The details have arrived by way of en email (posted by Cult of Mac) and notes rather simply that, support for the Messages Beta app will end for Lion users on December 14.

The Messages Beta program for Lion will end on Friday, December 14, 2012. We hope you’ve enjoyed the opportunity to preview Messages.

If you’d like to continue using Messages , upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Messages is one of the many great new apps and features built right into OS X Mountain Lion.

Thank you for your participation in the Messages Beta Program.

Of course, while this seems bad forcing an upgrade – Mountain Lion is just $19. Seems like the only ones that may be upset by this are the ones with older hardware and happen to not be eligible to upgrade to Mountain Lion. That being said, if you are using the Messages app on Lion, better start making some plans (one way or another) to get Mountain Lion installed before December 14.
