We’ve only seen a couple of gadgets upgraded to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean so far, but the newest member of this select club is by far the biggest shocker of them all. In fact, you’ve probably never even heard of the ZTE N880E, the latest phone to get the bump.

This is a China-exclusive handheld we saw treated with Jelly Bean butter back in July and now is the first device from an Asian manufacturer to get 4.2. Well done, ZTE, though we can’t help but wonder – wouldn’t a higher-end device deserve this early software leap more?

Don’t get us wrong, the N880E is not the worst phone in the world, but with only a 1 GHz Qualcomm 7627A CPU, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of on-board storage and a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pix res) display, it’ll probably not take advantage of all the new software treats at a max. On the flip side, ZTE has promised to “introduce more models on Android 4.2 in the future”, so there’s definitely more to come.
