Adblock Plus was released for Android today as a way to get rid of almost every ad you’ll come across. The app is free, and its functionality differs depending on your specific device. All in all, Adblock Plus claims to block “mobile ads, video advertising, banners, push notifications, display advertising, HTML5 advertising and much more.”

You don’t need to be rooted to use Adblock Plus, but rooted users will be able to block ads when they’re connected to Wi-Fi and 3G connections. If you’re not rooted and are running at least Android 3.1, ads will only be blocked over Wi-Fi. Non-rooted users who are running Android 3.0 and earlier (there aren’t too many left), have to independently adjust some settings for the app to work.

Google Play reviews for this app are mostly positive, but some are complaining about a persistent Adblock Plus icon in the notification bar. A whitelist function is also something that will be appreciated. Go ahead and try it out for yourself at the link below.
