Skype version 4.2 has landed in the iOS App Store. The app retains support for the iPhone running iOS 4.3 or later and as we saw with the previous update, is now optimized for the larger display of the iPhone 5. As for this update, this one includes some bug fixes, additional emoticon goodies, Microsoft account integration and more. Those ‘and more’ items include the ability to tap and hold on instant messages to edit them, the ability to edit saved phone numbers from the dial pad and the option to create a new Skype account right from the app. Otherwise, touching on the Microsoft account integration and additional emoticons and we have the following;

  • Chat with Messenger, Hotmail and Outlook.com contacts – sign in with and merge your Microsoft account.
  • Choose an emoticon while typing an instant message.
  • Animated emoticons for devices with a Retina display.
