After being acquired by Google, Motorola has made a habit of releasing smartphones in two versions – “regular” and special “Developer Editions”. Those last ones are basically identical with normal phones, but make the lives of devs easier by coming with unlockable bootloaders.
We’ve seen the Droid Razr HD and the Razr M getting Developer Editions until now, so it was only a matter of time until the Atrix HD got a re-release in this new form itself. The time has come, although you’re still going to have to wait until December 16, when US shipments will start.
In the meanwhile, you can head on over to Motorola’s website and get your pre-order in. Beware though, as this is not a device for “the faint of heart”, as Moto itself states. Unlocking your bootloader will void your warranty and can cause other damages, so think well and hard before messing with your phone’s software.
