We had known that Dell was working on something called Project Sputnik. And well, it looks like that project has brought a product launch, the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition notebook. This model is available as of now, priced from $1,549 and perhaps most key here — is running Linux. More specifically, the Developer Edition XPS 13 is running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Otherwise, aside from Linux, the XPS 13 also brings goodies to include a 13.3-inch 720p HD display, Intel HD 4000 graphics, a 3rd generation Intel Core i7-3776U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, 1.3 megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 3.0, mini DisplayPort and a 6-cell battery that should be able to offer up to 6 hours of running time. The notebook weighs in at 2.99 pounds and also sports a glass integrated button touchpad with gesture support and a full-sized backlit chiclet style keyboard that is spill-resistant.
Bottom line here, those looking for an Ubuntu notebook and not willing to do the install themselves, Dell now has a solid option to consider.
