Regular Android tablets and demanding games don’t go together as well as they should, but huge strides are being made to move mobile gaming forward. Archos is just one of the companies that has taken upon itself to release better suited tabs for gaming, with the end result being called the GamePad.

Sporting a 7-inch panel with a 1,024 x 600 pixels resolution, this is sort of a hybrid device that can act both as a traditional tab and as a console. The design is definitely one of the strongest points, with physical gaming controls neatly placed next to the display.

You have your 4-way directional pad, your two analog thumb-sticks and a set of action buttons and despite all that, the tab only weighs 330 grams. The GamePad offers full Google Play access, while under the hood there’s a dual-core 1.6 GHz Cortex A9-based CPU, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean makes the entire package awfully tasty, while the price is not at all prohibitive – just 150 Euro ($195) in Europe, where it’s now available. The GamePad is bound to come to the States too, in early 2013 for around $150-$160.
