Most of today’s “cool” smartphones are all about looks, but fragile as leaves in autumn. Which means that if you need a “partner in crime” that can take a bullet for you and survive, you might want to sacrifice on the intelligence part.
If that’s not an issue, look no further than Sprint, who’s just introduced the ultra-rugged Sonim XP Strike. This bad boy is IP68 and 810G military certified, which in civilian words means it’s tough as heck. Specifically, it can withstand drops on concrete from up to 6.5 feet, it can “swim” in 6.5 feet deep water for as long as 30 minutes and it’s also dust proof.
On the flipside, the XP Strike is definitely not pretty or elegant, weighing in at 6.5 ounces and measuring 0.98 inches. It’s also pretty expensive, going for $129.99 with a two-year contract. Finally, it’s not very “smart”, sporting a 2-inch QVGA screen, a 2 MP camera with LED flash, 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of internal memory, microSD, GPS, and a 1,950 mAh battery.
