Commander at the International Space Station (ISS) program, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is currently aboard the Expedition 35, circling the earth. Upon being a scientifically-brilliant spaceship pilot, this space cadet is also a hell of a songwriter.

On Christmas, Hadfield became the first person to record a song while orbiting the earth. As promised in his Reddit-sponsored “Ask Me Anything” Q&A session a few weeks ago, ‘Jewel in the Night’ is the title of his original acoustic guitar and vocal piece. And a haunting piece it is, presumably inspired by his more-than-a-bird’s eye view of the third planet from the sun. He uploaded to YouTube and SoundCloud over the weekend.

Check it out here:

He has a pretty awesome Twitter presence and is posting stuff that will blow your mind on a daily basis. Hadfield seems to be living that promise that you were told as a child, “you can do anything you want to, as long as you put your mind to it,” and we’re rooting for him, big time.

So, to Commander Hadfield: be safe, return home without any confusion and please continue being awesome.
