It’s natural to expect that the best-equipped or most popular gadgets to be the first in line for software updates but the Android world doesn’t always work based on these rules of mathematics. We thus often see devices from the back of the grid eager to play in the same league as the big guys.
Toshiba’s Excite 7.7 is the latest example of such a gadget, being treated with an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade that’s somewhat before its time. Released in July with ICS on board, the 7.7-incher has not been on many shopping lists, but it’ll now probably enjoy a bigger popularity wave than ever.
Toshiba is rolling out the JB upgrade OTA (over the air), which means that, if you own an Excite 7.7, you should wait for an automatic prompt message encouraging you to download the new software package. If the message fails to come however, you might want to perform a manual check by diving in your Settings menus or simply wait for some more.
Weighing in at 348 MB, the upgrade will bring the usual set of improvements, bumps and tweaks, but also the new “hybrid UI” we’ve seen on the Nexus 7 before. Enjoy!
