Who said deals and discounts are only good for holidays and special occasions? Not Amazon, that’s for sure, because the company’s 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is being sold for a special price through January 30.

The tablet starts at $249 as part of the promotion (with Wi-Fi only,) while the LTE-enabled version is $449. Both come with 50 bucks shaved off of  their usual list prices but to qualify for the promo, you’ll need to fulfill a few very strict conditions.

First off, you’ll need to be a student. Second, you’ll have to adhere to Amazon’s Student Program and activate a Prime account that’ll cost you $39 a year after an initial six-month trial period. Third and last, you’ll want to enter the KNDL4STU promo code when checking out any one of the two editions of the tablet.

A couple of other things you need to keep in mind before trying to take advantage of the deal are that only one promo code can be redeemed by a customer and that the offer will become available 24 hours after the activation of a Prime account. You’re welcome!
