Samsung was serious when it named its mid-range Windows Phone 8 effort the Odyssey, as the elusive 4-incher has gone through a long adventurous voyage (aka odyssey) before seeing daylight. The handheld, first introduced in October 2012, is still not up for grabs, but according to Sammy officials, it’s coming to Verizon in a matter of weeks.
The announcement was made on the Las Vegas stage during CES 2013, spicing up what was otherwise a fairly uninspired Samsung press conference. The phone’s spec sheet is also official, though there are no major surprises to report.
We’ve seen most of the features leaked just last week, and, as expected, our sources proved spot-on with their speculations. Expect the ATIV Odyssey therefore to come with a 4-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED screen, a 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S4 CPU, dual 5 MP/1.2 MP cameras, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, microSD support and a 2,100 mAh battery.
No official word on pricing, but we still think Big Red will be looking to offer this for free with two-year contracts. Any prospective buyers?
