Seeing as mobile gaming is still light-years behind console or PC gaming, we were pretty excited to hear about the GamePad tablet from Archos. The 7-inch tab/on-the-go console was unveiled in August 2012, but unfortunately took a while to reach customers.

European mobile gamers got it in December last year, while people in the US… got promises. It’s coming soon was all that Archos told Americans, until today, when we’re glad to bring you the first sort of official and clear ETA.

According to the manufacturers themselves, the 7-incher is due to land in US of A next month, though the exact release date is still a mystery. The GamePad will go for $169, which is pretty good, albeit 5 or 10 bucks more than what we predicted back in December 2012.

The specs are of course the same “old” ones, including a dual-core 1.6 GHz CPU, Android 4.1.2, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, a 1,024 x 600 pix res IPS panel, microSD support and mini HDMI.

The first gamepad was a disappointment, hopefully this one is better.
