Well, that was fast. It was only a few days ago that we heard for the first time about a possible Sony Xperia Tablet Z, and bada bing, bada boom — the 10-incher is already official. Taking more design cues from the newly unveiled Xperia Z phone than from the old Tablet S and Xperia Tablet S, this big guy looks great and has the hardware to match the premium design.

The 10.1-inch panel is not quite “Retina-like,” but with a 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution, it’s more than enough to smoothly go through all your Full HD multimedia content. The tab’s inner beauty comes mostly from the fast and furious quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz, but the 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of on-board storage are not to be ignored either.

Other known features include an awesome 8.1 MP Exmor R camera, Android 4.1, a 6,000 mAh battery, NFC, LTE, microSD support and a virtual surround sound system called S-Force. On top of it all, the 6.9 mm thin, 495 grams light tab (dayum!) is also waterproof and dustproof, so expect it to crush some hearts, but also to burn big holes into some pockets.

Only official in Japan at this time, the Xperia Tablet Z doesn’t have a price tag attached, but is expected to debut in Asia in February and in the rest of the world soon after.
