If there’s one thing that you absolutely need to do before buying any kind of gadget, it’s make sure to read all the fine print. Many people for instance are shocked to find out that their brand new smartphones or tablets don’t exactly come with all of the free storage space that they were advertised with. When they get them home and start using the items, the customer can become disappointed when all of their stuff can’t fit on their device’s new hard drive.

Then again, if you have some basic computer knowledge, you’ll not be too surprised to hear that, just like your PC’s Windows OS, Android, iOS or Windows Phone take up a certain amount of memory. Usually, that’s between 1 and 5 gigs, but in special cases it can go all the way up to 10 GB.

Or, if you’re thinking of buying one of Microsoft’s new Surface Pro tabs, 41 GB. You heard it right, Surface Pro’s Windows 8, along with a built-in set of programs and a recovery partition, tear the 10.6-incher’s internal memory to pieces, leaving you with less than half of what you may have thought you’re paying for.

That’s of course if you go for the 64 GB version, which will only offer you 23 GB of actual free storage space. In the 128 GB model case, things are a little less dramatic, but still frustrating as heck – you’re left with 83 gigs of memory. No wonder the sales numbers are the way they are.
