Logitech just announced a new keyboard accessory for the iPad mini called the Ultrathin Keyboard mini. The Ultrathin Keyboard mini doubles as a case and a Bluetooth physical keyboard for when a touchscreen just won’t do. The case also borrows the automatic on/off feature that was made popular by Apple’s Smart Cover. The Ultrathin Keyboard mini (in black or white) can be pre-ordered from Logitech for $79.99. Shipping is expected to commence sometime this month.
Believe it or not, Logitech’s keyboard cases for the iPad is one of the companies most successful products it has right now. Logitech CEO Bracken P. Darrell said in a recent earnings report that Logitech is so happy with the sales of the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, it’s shifting part of its focus to tablet and smartphone accessories. Given the success of the iPad mini so far, I’d say it’s a good place to start.
2013 is going to be a very interesting year for Logitech financially. This new shift to mobile accessories was brought on by a decrease in PC market around the world. Logitech also decided to sell its remote control and video security divisions. It’s Logitech’s hope that these moves will bring the company back into profitability.
