Gigabyte has made the headlines in the past month or so with several Windows 8 tablets, but when it comes to full-blown laptops the company has been very quiet lately. But we’ll have none of that today, as the newly launched P2742G gaming notebook is set to make quite a splash.
You’ll notice that we said “launched” and not “unveiled,” because the 17-inch machine has been official ever since last fall, but it’s only up for grabs now. And not everywhere, but just in the UK. Only for the moment, with several US retailers having it on pre-order.
Now, let’s see what’s inside this beast. Depending on your budget and preferences, you’ll have your choice of third-gen Core i7 CPUs (from 2.4 GHz to 3.4 GHz), 4 or 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M GPU, as well as dual storage options (up to 128 GB SSDs and 1 TB HDDs).
In addition, you’ll be happy to hear the 17.3-inch display boasts a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution, but also that you get a sturdy 8-cell 5,200 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet, USB 2.0 and 3.0 and HDMI. The starting price point is nothing to smile about (£910 in the UK and $1,450 in the US), but hey, this is a state-of-the-art gaming laptop and these things can cost a lot.
