The latest partnership between Samsung and ARM has produced the Exynos 5 Octa processing chip. Announced at CES, the unprecedented 8-core mobile processor is said to be featured on the upcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone, the company’s flagship model.

Samsung recently posted a video on their YouTube account featuring an ARM representative providing an overview of the hardware breakthrough, demonstrating it’s operation and he explains a bit about the synergy between the company’s Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 processors. That’s the big.Little technology featured in the Exynos 5 Octa.

Switching up which part of the chip is needed during specific workloads results in better battery consumption. So although these micro-computers can handle lot, you won’t be stuck next to a power outlet all day needed to re-juice your device. Of course, that’s the most basic interpretation of the functionality. I’ll leave it to the software engineer in the video to explain the details.
