It’s been a long, long time since we first heard of the Asus Transformer Book ultrabook/tablet hybrid and we were so close to give up on it altogether. That is, until spotting several German retailers listing it as available for pre-orders, with shipments set to start next month.
And if the ball gets rolling in Deutschland, we see no reason why other European countries couldn’t follow suit. Maybe even the US. Well, all that’s in the future, so let’s focus on today.
There are two Transformer Books listed on Conrad.de, one version with a Core i7 CPU and the other with an i5. Both are rather pricey, but for a solid reason. They feature 13.3-inch IPS Full HD panels, 4 GB of RAM (each), Intel HD graphics, a 500 GB HDD, a 128 GB SSD and on-board Windows 8.
The docking station, which lets you turn this bad boy into a full-blown laptop, comes with a sleek and elegant backlit keyboard, as well as an assortment of ports and extra battery life. All in all, you can expect over 15 hours of “juice” out of the docked tab, so I’m betting €1,299 is starting to actually sound cheap. That’s the i5 model’s price point, while the i7 version goes for €200 extra.
