In an effort to decipher sales figures of Google’s Nexus series smartphones and tablets, mobile industry analyst Benedict Evans reported that the company sold somewhere between 4.5 and 4.6 million Nexus 7 tablets in 2012.

The estimate was made by assessing tablet sales reported by Nexus manufacturer Asus, incorporating statements from the company CEO’s behalf. Total Asustek-made tablet sales for the year are estimated at 6.3 million units.

Unfortunately, the Nexus tab sales couldn’t match the nearly 10 million iPad mini tablet sales, nor annual sales of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which Evans admits that “it outsold the Nexus 7 as well.”

  1. Did I miss something in the math? You close with saying total table sales were at 6.3 million units. But iPad minis were estimated to be over 10 million. Were you adding up non-iPad sales only?

    • Thank you! My mistake, I’ve just updated the statistic — I meant “total Asustek-made tablet sales.” Sorry about that.

    • Edwin, by “source” do you mean the source hyperlink at the very bottom of the post labeled as “Source?”

  4. I have the Nexus 7 (using it now) and IMO it is the best on the market and with continued exposure I see a much larger market share this year.

  5. I have only heard complaints from apple devices which baffles me that they are the top sellers. hype apparently means everything. I have a g s1 and a nexus 7 and they are truly amazing. yes the g s1 is seriously outdated but still runs very smooth. my nexus 7 shines brightly. jellybean 4.2.2 is an incredible is. I plan to upgrade my phone to the g s3. android is the way to go. simply brilliant.

  6. Hey I own a Nexus 7 and surely it’s the best 7′ tab around… I’m only changing this one for the next Nexus 7 ;)
