Aereo is continuing to expand despite efforts from major broadcasters to shut the service down. Aereo has now moved out of New York City and into Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. Aereo boasts its online television service now reaches over 19 million people across 29 counties.
Aereo basically uses special antennas to capture over-the-air broadcasts and play them back on internet-connected devices. This allows the public to watch live broadcast television programs from devices such as computers (via web browsers), iOS devices and Roku. Plans start at $1 day and extends to $80 a year. The monthly fee is $8 and also includes 20 hours of DVR space.
So far, Aereo can pull down broadcast signals from channels such as CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, Bloomberg TV, PBS, The CW, ION and more.
Although the service area is limited, Aereo has plans to become available across the United States at some point this year. Specifically, Aereo wants to enter the country’s major markets. The Atlanta area for example is expected to get Aereo soon according to its website. You can sign up for updates that will alert you when the service lights up in your area.
