Kyocera hasn’t broken into the mainstream mobile market yet, but with three launches under its belt in the past seven days it looks like it’s getting there. After the Event and Torque, it’s time to welcome the DuraPro, even though this is one mind-boggling,
Not only is the DuraPro a feature phone, but it’s also a clamshell, a combo that we thought went out of style like two years ago. And to make matters worse, it appears Kyocera is planning to make this “bad boy” available for $99.99 with US Cellular contracts. And that’s after $50 mail-in rebates. If that’s not overpriced, I don’t know what is.
Still, the DuraPro does have a couple of important selling points. Actually, make that one – ruggedness. With Military Standard 810G certification, the flip phone is water, shock, dust and vibration resistant, making it a perfect choice for outdoorsy folks… from the 90s. Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself.
The spec sheet is so pitiful that I think you’ll get the picture after only hearing about the 2-inch internal QVGA display and 1-inch external panel. Yeesh, that’s terrible!
