Samsung and HTC probably did not sees this coming, but it was Sony who stole the Android show at CES with their Xperia Z and ZL. And the high-end smartphone duo’s 15 minutes of fame are far from over, with both big guys remaining in the spotlight ever since the Las Vegas expo.
The Z has seen daylight already in Europe and parts of Asia, being expected “soon” in the States. Meanwhile, the ZL is taking its sweet time before making an appearance in stores, but apparently it’s headed to America in addition to Canada, India and several European countries.
The non-waterproofer is now listed on Sony’s US Store, and, while no release date has been made public, something tells us that you’ll be able to get your orders in by the end of this month. Primarily, the phone will be available unlocked, but chances are T-Mobile and/or AT&T are going to pick the big guy up at some point.
Pricing hasn’t been announced, but all rumors seem to point at around $750. That’s not ideal, but what did you expect? After all, we are talking about a state of the art handheld with a 5-inch Full HD panel, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2 GB of RAM and a 9.8 mm thin profile. Not to mention the thing will be available in classic black, elegant white and snazzy red. Funky!
