When Pantech unveiled the state-of-the-art 5.9-inch Vega No.6 smartphone, our first reaction was of reluctant enthusiasm. There was nothing wrong with the device, just since Pantech is not a household name in the U.S. mobile industry, we feared the Vega was going to end up as a Korean-exclusive.
But now there’s an (outside) chance that the “phablet” might become a global product. Pantech just launched it in Hong Kong, which is a short bus ride away from China. Afterwards, we can hope to see the No.6 in Russia and maybe a couple of other European countries.
Pricing is not ideal, but you know what they say, you get what you pay for. And this big guy is definitely worth 5,980 HKD, or $770. After all, where else can you get a supersized Full HD panel, a quad-core S4 Pro CPU, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2 GB of RAM, a huge 3,140 mAh battery and a 13 MP rear-facing camera?
Then again, we know size is not seen as an upside by everyone, so maybe Pantech should hold off on this fellow’s worldwide rollout and come out with something a little more easy to pocket.
