Most of the important Android “players” around have made of habit of unveiling their flagships in glamorous stages, like Las Vegas, Barcelona, New York or London, while when it comes to more modest devices the usual choices are the more modest Russia, Ukraine, China, Taiwan or Brazil.

So when we heard Sony Mobile Russia was to hold a special press event on March 18, we immediately assumed there was something new to show off. Something intriguing, but not overly impressive. Like the recently rumored Xperia SP and L handhelds.

These have already been listed by a number of UK retailers, but for some reason Sony is still delaying the official intros. Be that as it may, we think we know what’s in store. The SP, also known as the HuaShan, should be a 4.55-incher with a 720p display, a dual-core 1.7 GHz S4 processor, 1 GB of RAM and an 8 MP camera.

Meanwhile, the Xperia L, aka TaoShan, will most likely be wrapping a 1 GHz CPU, an 8 MP cam, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory and a 1,700 mAh battery in a package measuring 4.3 inches in diagonal and boasting a 854 x 480 pixels resolution. Like I said, intriguing, but not impressive.
