While I know that some techies may feel disgusted at the mere thought of owning a Chinese phone, a few of the Android manufacturers around those parts have progressed so much of late that they just have to be seen as real contenders for the likes of Samsung, Apple, HTC or Sony.
Take ZTE, for instance. After making waves with the splendid Grand S and the ginormous Grand Memo, they are apparently readying another monster of a phone. This one is known just as the N988 for now and has been spotted getting approval from China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center.
On the outside, the N988 looks pretty much like the Grand Memo, having basically the same dimensions and an identical 5.7-inch display with a 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution. On the inside however, rumor has it the new beast will pack a state-of-the-art quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz.
The Tegra 4 platform has only been unveiled a few months ago and so far we’re yet to see a single phone powered by it, which means ZTE’s N988 could be really special. Granted, the rest of the specs are a little less groundbreaking, though cool nevertheless – 2 gigs of RAM, 13 MP rear-facing camera, 2 MP front snapper, microSD support. Not so disgusted now, eh?
