Yahoo may not be the first company you think of when it comes to attractive mobile applications, but today it showed it still has a few tricks up its sleeve. The company released its Yahoo! Weather application for iOS devices for free, and it’s one of the most attractive and functional weather apps currently available. After trying it out, you may just make it your default weather app.
The information presented in this app is abundant, but Yahoo manages all the data gracefully. You swipe to the side to change locations, and swipe up to access an assortment of weather details. When you first open the app, you’re presented with a lovely photo that is sourced from Project Weather. Project Weather is a Yahoo community on Flickr that specializes in taking weather photos. The photo you see in the app was either taken in your city, or in a place nearby. It’s a nice touch that adds a personal element to the app.
When you swipe up, you’ll see the current weather conditions such as the day’s high and low temperatures, an hourly look at the weather for the next 11 hours and a five-day forecast complete with static weather icons. Swiping up a second time will bring up a more detailed look at today and tomorrow’s weather conditions in text form. As you continue to swipe up, you’ll find an interactive map with a radar, precipitation levels, wind and pressure readers and an image showing the position of the sun as it moves throughout the day.
This app is something that looks like it was born on Android. The design elements are very well thought out and subtly beautiful. You have to download this app and see it for yourself. More of this please Yahoo.
